Horst joined Goodman & Company, Investment Counsel Inc. in 2012. With knowledge of the agricultural industry sector, and insight into how it continues to evolve, his mandate is to work together with Ned Goodman to grow a globally-focused portfolio of investments in privately-held and publicly-traded agricultural companies. The portfolio is comprised of investments that offer the prospect of attractive returns without incurring excessive risk. Horst seeks to achieve this by selecting companies with sustainable competitive advantage, yet mispriced in the marketplace. His 25 years of experience on the buy-side and sell-side of the investment industry is proving useful in this regard.

Prior to joining Goodman & Company, he worked for nine-years as Head of Research and as an award winning (Financial Post, stock-picking competition) sell-side analyst with Stifel, Nicolaus & Company and its two predecessor companies. Before that, he worked as a top-three-ranked (Greenwich Associates and Brendan Wood International, institutional investor surveys) sell-side analyst with TD Securities. In addition, Horst has experience as a buy-side analyst, having worked for TMI-FW, Inc., an investment joint venture between Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board and the Bass Family of Fort Worth, Texas. His role there was to select undervalued, publicly-traded companies, for a $1 billion activist shareholder fund managed by Thomas M. Taylor. Beyond recommending what to invest in, Horst assisted with the development and execution of various activist shareholder strategies designed to unlock shareholder value.

Horst earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Waterloo, and an MBA (Dean's List recipient) from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. He is also a CFA charter holder.
